FIREPLACE SCREENS
Information current as of
Ok, you've got a fireplace but how do you keep the sparks from getting onto
the carpet and starting a house fire? Simple... get a fireplace screen. They are more than just a piece of metal, they have turned into a million
dollar industry touted by home decorators as being a vital piece of art in the room. What you get will accent or insult your room and surrounding
mantle. If there's a design style you know, then it comes with an appropriate screen. Victorian, modern, contemporary, old fashioned or plain.
Chain link is the style I grew up with, opening and closing like curtains.
Bob's fireplace screens has information on the variety we found while shopping online.
These screens come in single pane, bi-fold and tri-fold options. I believe there are even 4 and 5 fold options. They can be glass or metal.
Most aren't made of anything flamable unless they are design to be in front of a fireplace that doesn't produce a real flame. Flamable screens
would be great for an electric fireplace if you feel a need for that accessory. Anything producing a real
flame would require a fire retardent material.
It's important to protect your carpet. EVen if you don't actually have a house fire you would still need to be vacuuming up those little charred cinders if you don't have a screen to keep them within the hearth itself.
We've also found a lot of neat victorian and glass screens available on ebay.com There is so much diversity.
